Lidl advances US expansion with acquiring sites in North Carolina

European supermarket titan Lidl picks two North Carolina grocery store sites. As it gears up to venture into the American market, Lidl is eyeing towards the Triad and Charlotte zones for its North Carolina stores. The organization has been unobtrusively plotting its extension plans for new store areas in both North Carolina and Virginia.

In the recent weeks, Lidl has filed new site plans with the municipalities in both Raleigh and Cary looking for consent to construct a 36,170-square-foot standalone supermarket on infill properties these municipalities. In Raleigh, Lidl is planning to purchase a 7.2-acre of land site at 4308 Wake Forest Road close to the McDonald’s at Ronald Drive and the Wal-Mart Supercenter on New Hope Road. It is also very near to Aldi market.

In Cary, Lidl has filed site arranges under the name HP Drive Grocery Store for a 3.5-acers of land at the northwest crossing point of North Harrison Avenue and Grand Heights Drive, opposite the Harris Teeter-tied down Harrison Pointe mall. Dan Matthys, development liaison for Cary, says the plan is right now in its first round of survey with the municipality staff.

Lidl is likewise looking areas in the Triad region, with plans filed in both Winston-Salem and Lexington.  GRDI LLC, formed in July 8, bought a consolidated 3.76 acers of land at 3335 Sides Branch Road and 1409 Lumber Lane in Winston-Salem for $2.3 million. A $2.5 million building allow that requires a supermarket was pulled not long ago by MGP Retail Consulting, the Virginia-based improvement arm for Lidl.
