Decathlon transforms Surrey Quays store into sports complex
Sportswear retailer Decathlon has invested £14m to expand and revamp its flagship Surrey Quays store, creating a massive complex where customers can test products for more than 70 different sports.
The store has been doubled in size to 90,000 square feet and includes a rooftop multi-sports arena, multiple sport test areas and a Decathlon Club meeting space.
Customers at Surrey Quays will find 3D tennis and golf simulators, a mini badminton course, mini golf course and bike testing stations, as well as a mini aquarium to test the brand’s snorkeling equipment.
The Surrey Quays store is now the largest in the UK for the French company, which plans to continue growing across the country. In addition to Surrey Quays, Decathlon has recently opened new stores in Telford at Greenwich.
John Butcher, Decathlon UK marketing director, said: “The new Surrey Quays store has doubled in size and makes a statement about our plans to invest and grow in the UK. There are few, if any, retail facilities like this in the country where shoppers can participate in more than 70 different sports in a purpose-built setting.”
More than 13,000 product lines are stocked in the new shop, including clothing and equipment for sports such as running, fishing and water sports, to golfing, swimming, and yoga.
