Walgreens, Coca-Cola Host 4th Annual ‘Happy Hour’

Coca-Cola Co. and Walgreens are working together on a summer “Coke Happy Hour” promotion for the fourth straight year — dangling a weekly “buy one, get one free” digital coupon for the manufacturer’s 20-ounce beverages.

The coupons are available and usable Wednesday through Friday for 13 weeks from June 6 through Aug. 31 via the retailer’s Paperless Coupons program.

Walgreens is promoting the offer in stores with cooler clings that prompt Balance Rewards cardholders to open the Walgreens mobile application and clip the coupon.

The partners further promoted the BOGO with a Walgreens Facebook update on June 13 that included a 30-second video showing professional soccer player Alex Morgan, a Coca-Cola spokesperson, entering a Walgreens store to make a purchase. In the video, Morgan explains how to clip the digital coupon.

Both the cooler cling and Facebook post indicate the promotion is live from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, but the coupon is accepted at all times on those days.

The effort is an exclusive overlay to Coke’s national “Share A Coke” platform, with marketing materials encouraging consumers to share the freebie.
