Sainsbury’s launches 200 new click and collect points

After finalising its takeover of Argos, the supermarket giant will utilise Argos’s partnership with eBay by creating 200 new click-and-collect points in Sainsbury’s stores.

Customers will now be able to collect Sainsbury’s own fashion brand Tu items, DPD delivery items, eBay purchases at “one stop destination” points.

In a further 30 of the new 200 collection points, customers will also be able to collect online Argos orders. These are expected to be ready by the end of the year.

Tablets will be available at the click-and-collect locations which will reportedly allow customers to significantly speed up delivery times.

This follows last week’s announcement that the supermarket’s takeover of Home Retail group, which includes Argos and Habitat, was completed at a price of £1.4 billion.

Alongside its click and collect stands it will launch five mini Habitat concessions and a further 20 Argos shop-in-shops.

This new acquisition raises the supermarket to have a stake in non-food retail, putting it in league with the likes of John Lewis and setting its sights on Amazon, while setting itself apart from the big four who are still embattled in a price war.

“It’s an exciting time in retail. As customer shopping habits change, people increasingly want flexibility, speed and choice both online and in-store,” Sainsbury’s chief executive John Rogers said.

“We are pleased to be bringing Argos’s products and services to Sainsbury’s customers via the new digital collection points, which are a demonstration of both businesses working closely together to bring benefits to customers at pace.”
