Selfridges has introduced an open-air market behind its Oxford Street flagship store.

The luxury retailer’s ‘Market on the Mews’ sells a rotating selection of food and drink, plants, homeware and gifts, and offers live entertainment and activities for adults and children. Brands such as Darlish (ice cream), Selfridges Bakery, Two Tribes Craft Beer and Assembly Coffee have stalls.

The market, which will run every weekend until 20 August, has been implemented “with the local community in mind” and to attract visitors. It is the first of its kind for the retailer.

Selfridges has implemented several health and safety measures for the market, hosted on Edwards Mews, such as only allowing 16 customers to attend at any one time, a one-way system, contactless payments, hand sanitiser stations installed throughout, screens across stalls and PPE for all team members.

“Our new Market on the Mews offers a convenient open-air weekend shopping experience for customers, with a selection of stalls from some brilliant independent London-based brands,” said Meave Wall, store director at Selfridges.

“The programme of entertainment including live DJs and street art will entertain customers and add to the joyful atmosphere of the market and we’re excited to welcome our local community.”
