Target acquiring same-day delivery tech from Deliv

Target Corp. is set to enhance its same-day delivery muscle in its ongoing battle to compete with Walmart and Amazon.

The discounter, which already owns on-demand delivery service Shipt, said it is planning to acquire technology from Deliv, a startup that is focused on last-mile batched delivery. The news comes shortly after The Wall Street Journal reported Deliv would be winding down its operations on or before Aug. 4.

Target said that some members of the Deliv team—including CEO Daphne Carmeli—will have the opportunity to join the retailer “as we research and develop how we’ll use this technology in the future.”

“Our game-changing fulfillment services—like order pickup, drive up and Shipt—have already made same-day delivery and pickup possible for millions of guests,” said Arthur Valdez, Target’s executive VP and chief supply chain & logistics officer. “This technology from Deliv is just one more example of how Target is investing for the future of local delivery.”
