Guess has joined forces with digital payment platform Alipay to offer Chinese customers a simplified payment option when visiting the US. The Alipay app can now be used at 50 Guess stores across the country.

A Guess storefront, part of the company’s network of 50 US stores now accepting Alipay for Chinese customers – Guess, Inc.

In addition to streamlining payment for Chinese visitors, the Alipay app uses geo-location to help tourists locate the nearest Guess stores. Users can access promotions and make purchasing decisions in app as well. The app also allows Guess to market to Chinese customers before their visit and continue connecting with them after they fly home.

“As a global brand… it is important that we are constantly innovating the customer shopping experience on an international level,” said Edward Park, Guess SVP of North America, in a release. “We recognize the importance that native apps play in the customer journey.”

Souheil Badran, president, Alipay Americas, said opening up the app for consumers coming to the US provides “the best shopping experience, unimpeded by any language or payment barriers.”

Alipay launched in 2014 and is operated by Ant Financial Services Group. It is the main way that Chinese consumers pay for their online and mobile purchases in China. 40 million brick-and-mortar merchants also use it in the country, along with hotels, taxi services, utility services and doctors. The app is used in 40 countries and supports 27 currencies.

Alipay will be available at select Guess stores in top tourist destinations including Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York. It will also be integrated in U.S. stores across all Guess concepts, including Guess Accessories, Guess Factory, Marciano and GbG.
