IKEA Makes Indian Debut
Swedish home goods giant IKEA has opened its first store in India in the market of Hyderabad. The new 400,000-sq.-ft. store is plotted as the first in what the company hopes will be 25 Indian locations by 2025, according to The New York Times.
Although the Hyderabad location features a traditional IKEA layout, merchandise varies to better suit Indian shoppers. IKEA employees visited nearly 1,000 homes throughout India to develop a stronger understanding of the needs of the average Indian family and household. Products including lines of flexible seating, lower-height cabinets and countertops, and more modular children’s beds are among the new items on sale.
IKEA operates more than 400 stores.
