Neiman Marcus store staffers get shopper insights online

Neiman Marcus’ new marketing tool has a whiff of Big Brother.

Regular Neiman customers might be surprised to know that their online browsing history on the store’s Web site is available via company-issued iPhones to their sales associate while they’re browsing the racks.

So if a customer recently clicked on a Dior item instead of her usual Gucci, the associate might remark on it and trot out a few Dior pieces to try on, Neiman Marcus Chief Marketing Officer Carrie Tharp told The Post.

“In the past, our associates knew what customers bought in the store, but now they can see what they’ve been browsing. We are not aware of anyone else doing this level of digital marketing,” Tharp said of the retailer’s new digital-first strategy, unveiled last week during an earnings call. Customers can opt in to the new marketing push, Tharp said.
