Samsung is opening a virtual reality studio in New York
Samsung reportedly plans to open a “dedicated virtual reality studio in New York,” according to CNET.
The news was announced at the Sundance film festival last week in Park City, Utah.
Samsung didn’t mention many more details about its VR studio, besides the fact it would be located next to a Samsung marketing team office in New York. That way, as Samsung creates new VR experiences, the company’s marketing team can try them, understand them, and publicize them.
We’ve reached out to Samsung to learn more about this new VR studio, and we’ll update the story if we hear back.
Samsung has been one of the first big companies to really invest in virtual reality thanks to its partnership with Facebook-owned Oculus VR and the resulting Gear VR headset. Therefore, a big focus of Samsung’s showcase at the Sundance film festival was virtual reality. People in attendance could wear Gear VR headsets and watch special comedy shows in virtual reality, like “The League” and “Childrens Hospital.”
Last week, Samsung also announced it will partner with the Sundance Institute for one year to help support creative filmmaking.
“At Samsung we love stories, and we love to help people tell stories,” Samsung USA’s chief marketing officer Marc Mathieu said at the event.
