Brick-and-Mortar Retail Still Rules Back-to-School Season

Despite the rise of Amazon.com Inc., parents still do most of their back-to-school shopping at brick-and-mortar shops. Almost 90 percent of school supplies will be purchased in traditional stores this year, according to a survey of parents by Bizrate Insights, a division of Connexity. But more spending is shifting to the internet each year: 46 percent of K-12 parents plan to do some online shopping — up from 36 percent last year — according to the National Retail Federation.
