Fashion and footwear retailer Subtype is opening its first Melbourne flagship.

The 280sqm underground store on Russell Street in Melbourne offers a curated range of limited-edition streetwear, collaboration products, such as Nike x Atmos, Converse x JW Anderson, Adidas x Alexander Wang, as well as international brands exclusive to Subtype, including the Korean brand Ader Error and France’s M+RC.

Subtype launches its second collection and its first artist series, featuring a collection of collaborative T-shirts designed by Melbourne artist Lou Karsh at the store opening.

The brand has plans to open a second flagship in Sydney and additional sneaker galleries in major cities across Australia later this year.

Subtype was recently acquired by Accent Group in September 2018. “We’ve carefully created a beautiful, immersive experience at Subtype, an incredible sneaker offering, loyal customer base and now the retail power and logistics support from Accent, the best operators in Asia-Pacific,” Subtype co-director Leith Testoni said of the acquisition.

Accent Group recently posted a record profit of $32.2 million for the first half of FY19, and noted that Subtype traded in line with expectations.
